ChCR at the conference on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of IARC in Lyon

Swiss delegation
Yara Shoman presented a poster on the SwissPedCancer project which investigates the data flow between hospitals and ChCR. This involved assessing data quality in the clinical information systems (CIS) of nine Swiss pediatric hospitals and manual review of patient records not registered in the ChCR. It can be concluded that automated data transfer has substantial potential, but critical challenges remain and need to be addressed: Updating ICD-10 codes in CIS is essential after ruling out a neoplastic or reportable diagnosis, systematic recording of the date of diagnosis, and recording of residency status at diagnosis in the CIS. Furthermore, Yara Shoman gave a presentation on a study on the data quality criterion “Timeliness of childhood cancer registration in Switzerland, before (2016-2019) and after (2020-2023) the Swiss Cancer Registration Act came into force”.
For cases reported by pediatric oncology clinics, the timeliness from diagnosis to registration remains the same after the new Swiss law was implemented in 2020. Timeliness from diagnosis to registration for reporting sources other than pediatric oncology clinics improved substantially after the law was implemented. Additionally, the number of registered cases increased after the new law in 2020, particularly for adolescents not treated in pediatric oncology clinics (+44%). The conference abstract has been published in eClinicalMedicine.
